Living the Jesus Story with Boldness
What does it look like to stand firm when the world is pushing back hard against everything we believe? In Acts 4:23-31, we find the early church at a crossroads. Peter and John have just been threatened by the most powerful religious authorities of their day, the very people who orchestrated the crucifixion of Jesus. And yet, rather than retreating into fear or bitterness, they gather with their community and pray -- not for protection, but for boldness. That single detail is worth sitting with. It reveals something profound about how they understood God's role in the world and their own. They were not praying to be kept safe from the mission. They were praying to be unleashed further into it. This passage challenges us to examine the stories we are living by. When threats come, when doing good gets us ridiculed or ignored, when the risk feels greater than the reward, what narrative takes over in our hearts? The early believers had allowed the story of Jesus -- his life, death, resurrection, and ongoing work in the world -- to become the most dominant story in their lives. And that story gave them a foundation that could not be shaken. The same invitation stands before us today.
