Choosing What Is Better

Reading: Luke 10:38-42

Devotional: Martha's frustration feels justified. Someone has to prepare the meal, clean the house, manage the details. Meanwhile Mary just sits there, apparently doing nothing. But Jesus gently reframes everything: Mary chose what is better—presence over productivity, relationship over results. We live in Martha's world, where busyness masquerades as devotion. We serve God while missing God. The irony cuts deep: we can be so consumed with doing things for Jesus that we have no time for Jesus Himself. This isn't permission for laziness—it's an invitation to reorder our doing around our being. Before your task list today, sit at Jesus' feet. Let communion with Him inform your activity. What seems like wasted time becomes the most productive moment of your day. Intimacy with Jesus is never wasted time—it's what makes all other time meaningful.

Reflection Question: What "good" activities might you need to set aside temporarily to choose the "better" thing of simply being with Jesus?
